Does anyone know why the order of the goodly wizards was called 'The Order of the Phoenix'? Does the phoenix symbolize Dumbledore?

Well, in DH I think Harry say's that Dumbeldore's patronus was a phoenix. And we know he had Fawkes. So clearly the phoenix was present in his life. Phoenix's die, and then rise again from the ashes. Perhaps the phoenix is symbolic of Dumbeldore's rebirth? All those horrible things happen to him: his mother, his father, Ariana, Aberforth, Grindelwald, the rumors, etc. and yet he still went on to become this great wizard who did so much good. He rose from the proverbial ashes. So, yeah, that's my theory.

Or maybe it means that, no matter how evil a wizard and how big his following, a group of good wizards will rise from the ashes he creates. Hence The Order of the Phoenix.

Well I saw things a little bit differently, the Phoneix bird within itself was strong, resilient. I remember them saying that it could carry a weight more than triple its size. I think it symbolizes strength. And a determination to never stop fighting to never back down. Because that's somewhat what they were, fighting what seemed like a futile war, but n matter what they still trudged on, without a moments thought of stopping. Truly great and noble wizards. [/color]
