Head of House speech - RavenclawProfessor Graves was a long stringy fellow who had a quiet yet penetrating demeanor. His glasses sat perched on the very tip of his extraordinarily long beak like nose that had been the butt of many student jokes since he was the Head of Ravenclaw. Many a pupil thought it a designation arrived at genetically rather than by aptitude upon employment. "Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, If you've a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind." “These words spoken by the sorting hat on my induction to Ravenclaw in 1979 have stayed with me throughout my career. We, in Ravenclaw are gifted with insight, aptitude, talent and resourcefulness. Where others charge at a problem with brute strength and bravado, we unravel the mysteries of our world bringing to our people new possibilities. We, in Ravenclaw strive to meet our fullest potential in all academic streams. Many of our world’s greatest leaders have come from these hallowed halls. Our house totem is the EAGLE – we hunt for knowledge, we soar toward greatness, we rest on higher plains. I welcome you, all of you to RAVENCLAW.”

Professor Neville Longbottom, Herbology, Head of Gryffindor House
Neville Longbottom loved Hogwarts with all of his heart and all of his soul. He had never known another home apart from this one and had joined the small group of students who had been "without a parental model”. In his year it had been he and Harry who had been parentless although Neville did have his Gran and Harry the Dursley’s but it wasn’t the same, never like the other kids. Hagrid had no parents and Hogwarts had been his home as it was for Voldermort and Dumbledore.
Neville’s hand instinctively clenched a little at the thought of Voldermort but that quickly dissipated as he came to the front of the group of first years. They looked amazingly small to him and he immediatly felt very protective of them all.
His teacher eyes quickly scanned the group at the same time as he looked at his list once then twice more. It was not difficult to see the imprint of his friends in the faces before him.
Neville smiled as he spoke;
“I’m Professor Longbottom. Don’t make fun of my name or I’ll deduct points from you. I know that will mean they come from our own house but, making fun of me is disrespectful and that’s something I won’t have in Gryffindor.” He let that sink in. “This is the House of Godric Gryffindor, Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and I. Being sorted into Gryffindor means that each of you has the heart and courage of a lion. Sometimes that can be an amazing strength at other times it can lead you off the beaten track and into mischief and trouble. Always remember this house is your home and inside this home is your family – treat them all with care, consideration and respect.”
Neville smiled broadly as he wondered if anyone had bothered to listen to him at all.

Head of Slytherin House speech - Professor Gwendalyn Dean
Professor Gwendylan Dean was an elegant woman her hair was stylishly swept up into a French twist the kind that looked like it would take several hours to achieve and was pinned with small tasteful clips with little raindrops on them that sparkled in the light. Although historically Slytherin House was known as the house from which the Dark Lord and many of his followers were birthed, Gwendalyn Dean stood on the hall marks of ambition, foresight, resourcefulness and cunning which boarded upon brilliance but not to the destruction or detriment of fellow witches and wizards. Her mind drifted to Headmaster Snape his stern unhappy face staring out of his portrait the truest Slytherin of all.
“Good evening children. I am Professor Gwendylan Dean Head of Slytherin House and Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts. This year is the beginning of a journey of transformation. From now on you will explore yourselves, our history and our world with your fellow students. You will have adventure, excitement, mystery and perhaps some of you will find in yourselves brilliance. Slytherin House can take you towards greatness but only YOU can make this a reality for yourself. Welcome to Slytherin House the threshold of greatness.”

Head of Hufflepuff House - Professor Priscilla Clarke , Potions.
Pricilla Clarke always felt odd out of her smock. None of her other garments had the right amount of pockets and she could never find anything about her person when she needed it when she was “smockless”. She once tried the muggle notion of a handbag but used to be confounded by the zips and compartments and was forever loosing things in the depths of the never ending sack she had brought. She felt comfortable and herself in her smock just as she did in the Potions room, in Hufflepuff and at Hogwarts. Professor Clark had a cheery, no-nonsense-lets-just-get-it-done attitude. She was from the Lake District so enjoyed early morning walks, looking at fauna and birds. This morning for example she had found a newly hatched Scops Owl which she had gathered up in her headscarf and brought back to the castle in the safety of a smock pocket. That seemed like an age ago but now her final duty of the day was upon her and she stood to address the first years into Hufflepuff.
“Welcome, Hufflepufflians!” she smiled broadly making sure to meet each child with a lovely twinkly gaze. I am your Head of House professor Clarke. You’ll be seeing me this year in Potions. If you have been sorted into Hufflepuff you have the following characteristics;
• Trustworthy • Loyal • Hardworking • Fair
So, I congratulate you all and consider it an honour and a privilege to be your House Parent this year. I myself think exercise before breakfast is a marvellous way to start the day so, I would encourage you all to get out of bed at the first bell, put on your walking shoes and buddy up for a brisk walk for about 20 mins. Remember, second bell means down to the Hall for breakfast in 10 minutes so you need to get back and shower and be lined up at the common room door to go to breakfast with your prefect. Thankfully, we are close to the Hall so we get a little more time compared to the others who have to march down from the rafters or up from the Dungeons. After breakfast, teeth and pack for school. There is no coming back to the dormitories during the school day , free time from 4 until 6pm , and study hall from 7 until 9pm.”
Professor Clark took stock of the faces that had slowly transformed from jolly to heavily burdened and smiled
“Come now, it will all be fine. Fine and dandy, fine and fun. Now, let’s get to the common room I’m sure your all excited to see your new home, so, good luck and good night.”
Professor Clarke patted the sides of her tweed skirt, no pockets she thought, definitely not enough pockets.

Headmistress speech:
Headmistress McGonagall stood, and the Hall quickly went silent. "To our first years, welcome to Hogwarts. To the rest of our students, welcome back. I promise that for once I will keep the speech short; I know most of you want to be finished with the night. I'll just begin the year with a few reminders to all of you."
"As always, the Forbidden Forest is completely off-limits to first through fourth years, and fifth through seventh may only go in for a class, with your teacher. I hope no one will have trouble remembering this rule, but for some reason, someone always does." She glanced over at the Gryffindor table.
"Do not bother the giant squid. The giant squid does not want to be bothered, believe me.
"Our caretaker, Mr. Filch, has asked me to remind you once again that Dungbombs and Fanged Frisbees are strictly forbidden, along with several other items which can be viewed on a list in his office.
"Last but not least, I would like to tell our first years--and remind some of our older students--that we are one school, not four. Don't misunderstand me: Your House will be an important aspect of your time here, but as we have learned many times in our history, when the time comes, Hogwarts must always stand united.
"And now that we're through here, I wish all of you a good night and a good year at Hogwarts."

"And now that we're through here, I wish all of you a good night and a good year at Hogwarts." Very well done Dodo. I'd just like to ask for one more favor before you post it. Introduce the Professors sitting to the left and right of Minerva McGonagall for the benefit of the First Year students. Also, mention a new staff member - Professor Gabriel Vanhelsing, the new DADA teacher, who by profession is a Hunter Auror. I'll leave it to you to dream up what happened to the last DADA teacher because you have such an imaginative birdbrain... now, that's an interesting oxymoron if I ever heard one . I'm sure you'll make things interesting
